Lake Junaluska has definitively decided it cannot continue as a homeowners’ association. With over 800 households, it can no longer afford to maintain its deteriorating sewer and water system without a revenue stream. It had been suggested that Lake Junaluska give the Town of Waynesville the infrastructure in return for fixing it. The cost of repairs was estimated at $1.77 million, an amount unlikely to be recovered by user fees. The idea was therefore never presented to Waynesville. Now, residents of Lake Junaluska must decide if they wish to incorporate or be annexed by Waynesville. The next step is to contract for a study.
