The last day to register your friends to vote in the upcoming election is this Friday, October 12. The last day for Election Services to receive your friends’ requests for absentee ballots is October 18. That is also the first day of early voting. No ID required.
This Saturday, October 13 is Tire Amnesty Day. The cost of turning in tires to save the environment is prohibitive, so 1277 of the black, circular jobbies were discovered hiding in rivers and illegal dumping grounds by environmental cleanup crews this year. To save themselves the problem of dredging tires, volunteers will collect the treaded, elastic rolling things in the front parking lot of Sears in the Asheville Mall. No fees will be assessed, but only Buncombe County residents may participate. ID required.
