Today, I returned to the town where I used to work. Back then, things were bad. Old people were moving into trailers in front of their homes to deal with property taxes. This time, things looked shabbier. Businesses were understaffed and understocked. A lady sang spirituals, as if life was burdensome. A man pulled a wagon down the highway collecting cans.
