Senator Dan Soucek introduced SB 949 to eliminate the Town of Boone’s Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. Soucek said it was unfair to keep citizens in an ETJ when there was no reasonable expectation for them to be annexed. Some residents of the ETJ, however, apparently enjoy their current situation. They have created a website, stayscrunchyinmilk.com to persuade citizens to lobby against the bill.
The bill was withdrawn from the calendar last week. Soucek said it was because he had to attend a funeral, and it will be re-calendared as soon as the “hectic” budget talks are over.
