A little over a month ago, the Henderson County Commissioners decided in a 4-1 vote to ask the General Assembly to allow them to turn up the heat on those they tax without representation. They wanted to raise the occupancy tax from 5 to 6%. Whether Senator Tom Apodaca wanted to kill the bill or he really thought it was a good idea, he amended HB 1215 to require all funds to go to the Flat Rock Playhouse. With that, the bill was committeed. Commissioner Larry Young, who cast the singleton vote, considered giving $700,000 to a private entity “totally ridiculous.”
