Following the recess at Tuesday’s Asheville City Council meeting, Councilman Gordon Smith reentered the room whistling. That made me realize I had been whistling, too. The song was Steely Dan’s “Only a Fool Would Say That.” Even the drug-culture song, albeit co-written by a brilliant English major, recognizes the impossibility of Utopian pipedreams.
