The State of North Carolina has no money. It has to fire teachers. But it will probably have sufficient to buy the Columbus Police Department $15,200 in free merchandise. Goodies include, “a new light tower and generator, an equipment trailer, a set of checkpoint signs, 20 traffic cones, 10 traffic vests and five flashlights.” The prizes, if approved, will come from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
The town conducts activities to gain points, mainly through vehicle checkpoints and assisting other checkpoints. The more points are gained throughout the year for the program, the more funding is possible in order to purchase equipment to increase enforcement.
